The Old Biscuit Mill

We went to Cape Town one Saturday and popped in at The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock. It's a place to buy art, furniture, ceramics, wine, fine chocolate, clothing, flowers, food and more - especially on Saturdays when the vendors set up their stands in the middle of the shops and restaurants.

It was our first time there. We ate a scrumptious breakfast at Saucisse Boutique Deli before walking around the stalls. It's a good thing we did, because there was such a variety of food being offered at the different stalls that it would have been difficult making up our minds or sticking to a budget.

I didn't have my camera, so today's photos were taken on my hubby's phone.

Du Toitskloof

Our third stop on our Rawsonville outing was Du Toitskloof Cellar. We came for a light lunch before heading back home. We didn't do any wine tasting this time, because they were very busy with a large group of kayakers and we were satisfied that we'd spent enough money on wine at our first two stops. Also, I've done a series of their wines on this blog before and you can check out those links below.

To follow our stops, you can click on the map at the bottom of this post to view it larger. Du Toitskloof is the second winery below the blue N1 sign. You can click on these links if you missed Part 1 or Part 2 of our Rawsonville outing.

We ordered two curry mince Vetkoeks (pronounced Fet-cook and means "fat cake" as the dough is deep-fried in hot oil) and one Boerewors (South African farmer's sausage) roll. Amanda ate the "Boerie" with the sweet tomato relish and we had the curry mince, which was too spicy for her. I was annoyed that we didn't have something to eat our messy food with and the kitchen was too far away to ask for more serviettes (napkins), but the food was good.

uniWines

This past month, on a beautiful wintery Saturday, we went wine tasting in the Rawsonville area. (Since we are in the Southern Hemisphere, we are heading into spring and not autumn like my Northern Hemisphere readers.)

Our first stop took us to the Wine and Tourism office and Goudini Wines. (Visit the link if you missed that post.) Our second stop took us to the uniWines estate, which is a co-op of Palesa, Meander, DaschBosch, Ankerman and Groot Eiland wines.

This was the first time that we encountered a sign that said that children were not allowed inside, so Amanda had to sit outside while we tasted some delicious wines from the various wine makers. We bought her a bottle of Ankerman sparkling grape juice that she could enjoy.

Rose Niemand and her wine making husband, Stefan, were there to tell us about the wines. Rose persuaded us to try the white and red sweet wines (Nectar de Provision) from Ankerman. She treated us to blue cheese and crackers, which went well with them. We ended up buying two bottles of the white. We really enjoyed our stop at uniWines and we came away with several purchases.

Goudini Wines

We went for a drive through the Rawsonville wine route a couple of Saturdays past. Amanda loves coming with us, so we took her along. On this trip, we went to three wine cellars. Our first stop was at the Wine and Tourism office and Goudini Wines, they share the same property. That's where we got this awesome map. You can follow along with it.

Goudini had some good wines that have won awards. My favorite was the Chenin Blanc.

You can click on the images to view them larger, but the captions that I've included will not appear in that mode.
