Viewing Franschhoek from the Road

We had a fabulous family reunion in Franschhoek (Afrikaans for "French Corner") this past weekend. All the family on my mother-in-law's side gathered to celebrate two big birthdays. My husband's aunt turned 70 last Thursday and Hubby turned 50 last Friday.

Today's photos were taken from the car while Hubby drove into Franschhoek early Friday evening and as we left late Sunday morning. Since we spent a weekend there, I'll be sharing more photos of interesting places in this wonderful wine valley that's also renowned for its great restaurants.

As you can see by the photos, it's Autumn in the Southern Hemisphere.

Nuy Valley Feast 2016

This last weekend we participated in the Nuy Valley Feast, an annual fun-filled family event in beautiful wine and olive country. Kids are for free and everyone else 18 years or older pays a small entrance fee that includes a wine glass and wine tasting at four neighboring farms. You can park your car at any of the venues and take a tractor ride from farm to farm. We had a blast last year too and I shared a lot of neat photos from that event on my Nuy Valley Wine Tasting - Part 3 post. Be sure to check it out!

Kalk Bay Waterfront

If you're ever in Cape Town, be sure to visit Kalk Bay. It's a fun little fishing village with quaint shops and vibrant restaurants.

Kalk Bay Shops

Kalk Bay Quarter

A great place to spend the morning or afternoon is in Kalk Bay, a fishing village and suburb of Cape Town. You can enjoy the sea and mountain views while shopping or sitting at a coffee shop or restaurant. The shops in Kalk Bay are quirky with lots of unique handmade items. There are vintage finds, boutique clothing stores, art for sale, and so much more. There's even a nursery right next to the train tracks.
