Country Roads of South Africa - 1

Many of my readers have enjoyed seeing this tiny corner of the world where I live, so I'll be sharing more photos of this beautiful country with you. We took this drive a couple of weeks ago when we visited an outdoor restaurant near our town. I posted photos of the breathtaking views surrounding the restaurant on my parenting blog, Amanda's Books and More.

If you enjoyed this post, then please take a moment to share it. Thanks!

Country Drive - 6

I have been taking a much needed break from this blog and slowed down on two other blogs while my activity seems to have increased on my parenting blog, Amanda's Books and More. I really love blogging, but it is also time consuming. This one is my "hobby" blog and is meant to be purely for fun, although I've also worked just as hard on some of my posts here as on my other blogs. These two photos of a grazing horse on a South African olive farm are the last in this series. His friend in the previous post was tethered to an olive tree. I think he was probably tethered too and just got loose, because he was trailing reigns. I hope you've enjoyed these posts as much as I have!

Country Drive - 5

All the photos that I've been sharing in this series were taken in January 2012, (which is summertime here in South Africa) within the space of two hours. We didn't even have a camera with us, just Hubby's mobile phone. I kept asking him to pass it to me, so that I could take these pictures. At this point of our country drive, we had ventured onto a farm road, where there used to be a restaurant. I think we wanted to see if the place was still open for business. Instead of a restaurant, we found two horses grazing in the olive grove. These two pictures are of the white horse.

I did a three-part series called "The Oil" (which I've listed below) where you'll find lots of interesting facts on the biblical symbolism of olive oil.

Country Drive - 4

The neat thing about taking a country drive in South Africa is seeing the various farm stalls that pop up along the way. This one is a great example of that. If you look closely, there are two scarecrow-like characters sitting at the entrance, an old man and woman, each with a basket of goodies on their laps. At most farm stalls you can buy things like fresh farm produce, nuts, dried fruits, biltong (which is similar to beef jerky in the States), homemade jams and preserves, and handmade items like cards or soaps. In this shop you can see some of the handmade things on display from the decorative hanging hearts to the colorful pinwheels. The second photo Hubby took of me standing in front of the farm stall. It gives you an idea of what the little shop looks like from the road.
