Kalk Bay Train Station

Kalk Baya picturesque suburb of Cape Town, is a quaint fishing village on the coast of False Bay. Today's photos are on the theme of trains, the train station, and a derailed old blue train that serves a good cup of coffee.

I have never taken a train along the water, but it's worth it for the views. The Cape Town Travel website recommends The Southern Line Rail Route, which stretches from Cape Town to Simon's Town. They do warn that train travel does not always run on schedule and to be aware of potential pickpockets.

The derailed old blue train, called the Kalk Bay Expresso, serves coffee and cake right alongside the Kalk Bay Station. When you step on board, you feel transported in time with the authentic decor and fittings from that period.
