Cape Town - Part 3

Here's another fun thing we did with Amanda on a morning that her sisters were at ballet. It's something I had been wanting to do for a very long time. We went for high tea at the Mount Nelson. It was a fabulous experience. The hotel was as grand as its name, but I didn't take any photos inside, except for the galaxy themed passage that was near our outside table. The gardens had beautiful flowers, interesting statues, a large fountain and even larger trees. Click on the images to view them larger.

Cape Town - Part 2

We started going a couple of times a month to Cape Town when our girls began taking ballet lessons last year in October. We had to come up with ways to keep Amanda busy while her sisters were at their lessons.

Last week I shared with you our visit to Burger King and Amanda at the Kids Zone. This week I'm sharing photos of Amanda feeding the birds and squirrels at the Company Gardens. I bought hamster food for this purpose.

(Amanda is not taking ballet, although I would certainly consider it in the future. She is taking fun gym, an introductory course in rhythmic gymnastics, and tennis this year.)

My mother-in-law met us in the Company Gardens. She took Samantha out for lunch and shopping after her lessons. It was her birthday in October 2013. These photos are all from my archives. Click on the images to view them larger.

Cape Town - Part 1

Fast Food in Cape Town

Yesterday I saw the second half of an episode of Fast Foods Gone Global. It was my first time seeing the program and it inspired me to share today's post on our first visit to Burger King in Cape Town, South Africa. McDonalds has been around for years, but Burger King got in on the action by successfully opening one of it's first restaurants in the business district of Cape Town in 2013.

The restaurant is a double story and we went upstairs to eat. The bathrooms were upstairs and so was the Kids Zone. Amanda had fun playing on the indoor playground. There was also a reading room with children's books and computer games for the bigger kids. My only complaint was the long wait for food. The tables inside were half empty, so I think if they could find a way to process the orders faster, then the tables would get filled.

I found this neat 2 minute video on the Travel Channel called McFeasting in South Africa. It shows a new McDonalds at the Cape Town Waterfront. Botanical Garden, South Africa - Part 3

Botanical Garden, South Africa - Part 2

I love visiting Botanical Gardens. They are a great place to take the kids. This series is on the Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden in South Africa. The plants are indigenous from this region, which is semi-desert.

There's even a metal sculpture of a frog that took us by surprise. We didn't expect to see it there. Next week I'll share the remaining pictures, including sculptures that we found in the trees. If you missed last weeks post, you can find it here on Part 1.

Botanical Garden, South Africa - Part 1

The Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden has a wide variety of semi-desert plants, including succulents. Recently, larger-than-life insect sculptures were added to the garden. They make the visit so much more fun, because you might stumble upon one when you least expect it. Some can even be found hiding in the trees. I took Amanda and my camera to go see them just before the sun set. The sculptures were certainly impressive. The one that looks too real for my comfort is the huge mosquito.
