Animals at Britannia Bay

We always find our time at my in-laws' house on the beach relaxing and peaceful. People and their pets have a fabulous time here. The beach along Britannia Bay is not crowded like the beaches in Cape Town. Even on a lovely day, there can be long stretches of empty beach.

Today's photos are of my in-laws' two cats and some of the wildlife at the West Coast. If you follow my blog, Amanda's Books and More, then you'll probably have seen these photos when I shared them in January after we got back from our holiday.

The Surf at Britannia Bay

I am always intrigued at the different moods the ocean has and I especially love photographing the wild surf. These pics were taken on such a day while at Britannia Bay, South Africa. Only the last one of the surf was taken on a different day.

The two girls in the photos are our two youngest daughters. Samantha is now in grade 10 and Amanda is in grade 2. I think they were very brave to try and catch some of these wild waves on their boogie boards.

Rock Pools at Britannia Bay

We went to my in-laws' beach house over Christmas and New Year's. They live right on the beach at Britannia Bay, which is part of St. Helena Bay. We always enjoy exploring the rock pools further up the beach. You can check out the neat photos that I took the year before that include Shelley Point on Britannia Bay, South Africa - Part 6.

The collages below are from photos that I took at the same rock pools in December 2013 and I posted them on my blog, Amanda's Books and More. You can the see that we had some fog that day and all the kids were with us.

Fresh Mussels from Saldahna Bay

Saldahna Bay in the Western Cape is
South Africa's largest natural anchorage
and port with the deepest water.

In the December holiday, we went to Saldahna Bay to pick up fresh mussels that my father-in-law had ordered from a fisherman at the harbor. Later that evening our three teenagers learned how to clean them. They then helped my mother-in-law cook them for dinner. Enjoy the photos!
