Cape Town - Part 2

A Playground in Cape Town
Ein Spielplatz in Kapstadt

De Waal Park is one of Cape Town's heritage sites. It was opened to the public in 1895. Today it's a popular park for dog walkers, children, picnickers, runners and more. Because of the dogs, you have to be careful not to walk in any poop. That's not very pleasant. It's also a place where the homeless come to take a nap. We had to use the public toilets and surprisingly, those were very clean. Who gets to play on a playground with Table Mountain as your backdrop? It's pretty cool, isn't it?

Afrikaans: Moenie slaap nie. Kyk! Agter die gordyne begin die dag dans met 'n pouveer in sy hoed.

English: Don't sleep. Look! Behind the curtains, the day begins to dance with a peacock feather in its hat.

Amanda chose the espresso cup and saucer above as souvenirs. In this photo she was having tea. We chose the two dishes below for my mom-in-law for Christmas. It was great that she got to use them while we were there.

An Afternoon at Velddrif

If you've been following my mom blog, Amanda's Books and More, then you'll have seen a couple of today's photos. We spent an afternoon in Velddrif on South Africa's West Coast. Three of our kids came with.

Port Owen

We drove into Port Owen, looking for a scenic spot where we could get milkshakes. We found a restaurant bustling with a stream of Christmas holiday makers like ourselves. The place was so busy that the waitress told us there was a long wait for food orders. We told her that we had come for milkshakes only. We didn't wait terribly long, but the milkshakes were the worst we'd ever had. Amanda liked hers, but the rest of us didn't and I left mine unfinished.

Britannia Bay, South Africa - Part 8

We drove down Britannia Bay to the other end to do a bit of exploring on our last day. It was early morning and the air was still cool.
