The Estuary and Bokkomlaan at Velddrif


We always enjoy taking a drive to Velddrif whenever we're visiting my in-laws on South Africa's West Coast. Velddrif is a small fishing town with an estuary teeming with birds on the Berg River. We also drove along Bokkomlaan, a road named after the salted, dried fish (mullet) known as bokkoms. Bokkomlaan has been declared a heritage site with its historical bokkom industry.
