Dunn's Castle in Piketberg

Heading home at the beginning of January from our family holiday, we stopped in at Dunn's Castle in Piketberg, which has sweeping views of the Swartland region. The castle was built in 1902 and originally belonged to George Herbert Dunn. Famous guests such as Cecil John Rhodes, Rudyard Kipling and Herbert Baker were regular visitors. Sir Herbert Baker was a good friend of Dunn and it's believed that he was the castle’s architect. Today it is a guesthouse and conference centre. We didn't see the rooms, but we did go inside for some light refreshments.

My eyes feasted on the dessert. The plating is so attractive.
Kipling I know, but can you tell I don't read much? Nice series of photos, you sure do get around. Oh no, what an incredible double scoop presentation. I might be able to eat the fruit on top.

The others weren’t authors, but they were all British. Rhodes was a highly successful businessman and the Prime Minister of the Cape Colony from 1890-1896. He was passionate about spreading British rule through Southern Africa, so he has a checkered history. Baker was a well respected architect and possibly designed Dunn’s Castle. Thanks for stopping buy and commenting!
When I saw the blog title with "castle" in it, I expected to see a CASTLE lol This looks like a house with a castle "wing" :D Love that such a well-known author stayed there and you can see why. The views ARE incredible, though if they had food like that, too (I doubt it lol), that would be a draw too! ALways mouth-watering :)

Perhaps in its day it was more grand, but I agree, it’s not much of a castle. Maybe just wishful thinking. 😄
