Fiesta and Casa De Reyes in Old Town

Family and friends who gathered in La Jolla for my grandmother's 90th birthday spent a few days around her birthday doing fun things together. Old Town, San Diego was one memorable outing. We arrived late afternoon to enjoy an early dinner celebration with her at Casa De Reyes. My husband ordered a Coronarita (a margarita with an upside-down bottle of Corona), which got all of us laughing as we passed it around. It was really good!

Old Town, San Diego

Family and friends who gathered in La Jolla for my grandmother's 90th birthday spent a few days around her birthday doing fun things together. Old Town, San Diego was one memorable outing. It was California's first settlement in 1769 with only a mission and a fort!

My grandmother can't walk far, so she was pushed with her wheelchair through Old Town. We arrived late afternoon to enjoy an early dinner celebration with her, but I'll share those photos next week. Today's photos capture the historical charm of Old Town and some of the interesting things for sale at the gift shops.

High Tea at Shakespeare's Corner Shoppe

Hubby and I were in the States for 3 weeks and just got back to South Africa. Our main reason for going was to see my grandmother in San Diego for her 90th birthday. Our first day there, the women in the group had high tea at Shakespeare's Corner Shoppe while the guys went next door to the pub.

We were 3 generations of women, starting with my grandmother, then my aunt and mom, and ending with my cousin and me. I always love high tea, eating a variety of dainty savory and sweet foods. My cousin could enjoy it too with the gluten free option. The tables were pretty and our waitress was quirky and friendly.
